Get Involved

Ways to volunteer

The more parent involvement we have, the more we can do — and the closer our community grows. Getting more involved provides wonderful opportunities to see how your child is doing at school, get to know teachers better, meet more parents, and simply to have fun. It offers a way to put your unique abilities and interests to work for the good of the community.

We have many organizations at school and in the parish. If you feel that your schedule doesn’t allow you to make a commitment to a particular organization, you can participate more informally in many ways — by volunteering for community service projects, helping your child’s class do a project, lending a hand with an annual event such as Casino Nights or the Golf Outing, helping with holiday preparations, making a personal or business donation to our silent raffles or other fundraisers, helping with grant writing, and more.

Here are a few ideas:
• Join the Parents’ Association.
• Become a Parent Ambassador.
• Get involved with the athletics program by being on the Sports Board, coaching a team, or being a team coordinator.
• Help out at an Open House.
• Bake! We often need baked goods for school fundraisers and events.
• Help the School Board by running for the board or joining one of its committees (such as Marketing, PR, Development, Alumni Relations, help the Finance Committee with grant writing, etcetera).
• Be a “One Time Volunteer.” If your schedule is too busy to make an ongoing committment, you can still help out with one event. Let someone in the office or Parents’ Association know that you are interested.
• Not sure what you’d like to do? Sign up to be a general volunteer. Just let the office know you’re interested so that someone can call you when help is needed.

Please let teachers, other parents, and our principal know how you might be interested in helping— or simply ask what they need help with most.

Required information
The safety of our students is always a priority. Volunteers who work directly with children are required to go through a background check and attend Virtus Training.

Background screenings are done online through the Archdiocese of Chicago website: https://www.eappsdb.com/Login.asp?ORGZ_KEY=18 (If you do not have access, please contact the school office for help.)

Virtus Training is a three-hour session of the “Protecting God’s Children” program on child sexual abuse awareness for adults. Sessions will be held at SRB, but are also provided at many other parishes at a variety of times, so you can choose one that best fits your schedule. You can find a list of times here: http://www.virtusonline.org/virtus/reg_list2.cfm?theOrgID=18958&theme=0
