Academic Achievement

A St. Robert Bellarmine education builds a solid foundation that prepares students for the future. 99.8% of graduating eighth grade students are admitted to the high school of their choice. Students are accepted into high schools such as Fenwick, Guerin, Loyola Academy, Notre Dame, Resurrection, St. Ignatius, St. Patrick, Trinity, and top-tier public high schools. Many receive scholarships based on their academic performance.

"We find St. Robert's graduates to be very well prepared for the challenges of high school." Dr. Joseph Schmidt, Principal, St. Patrick High School

Like all schools in the Archdiocese of Chicago, we use Terra Nova Achievement tests, because of their focus on national education standards. Terra Nova testing differs from the Illinois Standard Achievement Test (ISAT) used by public schools in that the Terra Nova focuses on process. For example, in the math portion of the test, students have to provide a written explanation of how they arrived at their answer.

Test scores at St. Robert Bellarmine are well above national averages year after year, and also show that we are meeting the needs of all of our students.

TERRA NOVA TEST SCORES- Spring 2009
The chart below shows the percent of student scores exceeding the 50th percentile (that is, the percent of students who tested above the national norm). For more detail, download our test scores page (PDF).

Test Scores

Our students receive individual attention from teachers and their aides. The student:teacher ratio for our preschool is 8:1, and for K-8 is 19:1 with an average class size of 20 students.
